Viking’s Newest Nile Ship Has Been Named

Viking's latest ship for Nile cruising has been christened in Aswan under the guidance of esteemed architect Richard Riveire. The newly introduced Viking Aton, accommodating 82 guests, is now a part of the expanding fleet in Egypt.

The naming ceremony took place on August 19th, led by Reveire, the mastermind behind the design of Viking's river, ocean, and expedition vessels. He bestowed upon the ship a benediction for good fortune.

Aton stands as the exact twin of the Viking Osiris, an advanced craft meticulously crafted for seamless navigation of the Nile waters.

This vessel will undertake the renowned Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary, an eight-day circular journey that grants access to remarkable sites such as the Tomb of Nefertari in the Valley of the Queens and the Tomb of Tutankhamun in the Valley of the Kings.

These sibling ships retain distinctive Viking features including a square bow and an indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace. Apart from Aton and Osiris, two more identical sister ships, Viking Hathor and Viking Sobek, are currently in the works and scheduled for delivery in 2024 and 2025 respectively. This will bring the cruise line's total to six ships navigating the Nile.

Chair Torstein Hagen expressed his satisfaction in welcoming Viking Aton into their expanding fleet. He stated, "With its partner, the Viking Osiris, they stand as the most contemporary and refined vessels on the Nile."

He added, "Given the immense interest our guests have shown in Egypt, we take great pride in presenting this cutting-edge vessel to the region. We eagerly anticipate introducing even more inquisitive travelers to the cultural treasures of this country."

Riveire, the ship's godfather, considered it a privilege to hold this role. He remarked, "For well over ten years, I've taken pride in collaborating with Tor, Karine, and the Viking team to conceptualize how the Viking brand takes shape onboard. Our shared belief is that the design of each Viking vessel should beautifully represent the destination, no matter where you may be in the world."
